Your organization can deploy a customized Start and taskbar to Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, or Education devices. Use a standard, customized Start layout on devices that are common to multiple users, and devices that are locked down.
Configuring the taskbar allows you to pin useful apps for your users, and remove apps that are pinned by default. As administrator, you can use these features to customize Start and taskbar to meet your organization needs. This article describes the different ways you can customize Start and taskbar, and lists the Start policies.
It also includes taskbar information on a clean operating system OS installation, and when an OS is upgraded. Using CopyProfile for Start menu customization in Windows 10 isn't supported.
On an existing Windows device, you can set up the Start screen, and then export the layout to an XML file. Using these methods, you can deploy the XML file to your devices. When the devices receive your policy, they'll use the layout configured in the XML file. For more information, see Customize and export Start layout. For the taskbar , you can use the same XML file as the start screen. Or, you can create a new XML file. This should automatically snap the active window to the left or right.
Select another window to fill the second empty space. If you want to expand a window to the full screen again, just press the Windows key and the Up arrow key together.
If you accidentally make a quarter window instead of a half window, you can use the Windows and Up or Down arrow keys to expand it as well. If you have a large or high-resolution display, you can take advantage of all of that extra screen real estate by snapping up to four windows on a single screen using Corner Snap. Step 1: Drag and drop your first window into any corner.
To use the keyboard shortcut, press and hold the Windows key followed by the Left or Right Arrow key to snap the active window to the left or right. Next, press and hold the Windows key followed by the Up or Down Arrow key to move the snapped window into the top or bottom corner. Step 2: With the first active window in a corner, drag and drop your second window into any other available corner.
You are not required to pick a specific corner. Step 3: Repeat Step 2 to fill in the other two corners as needed. Select Picture , then select a recent image, or select Browse photos , select the photo you want to use, and select Choose picture. Select Slideshow , then select Browse , select the folder you want to use, and select Choose this folder. If you see folders listed that you don't want included in the slideshow, select Remove next to that folder. If you chose Windows spotlight for your lock screen, you can test if it's working correctly.
The Windows spotlight image should appear on the lock screen. Check that the toggle for Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen is turned on. Select the list for Lock screen status , and select an option such as Mail , Weather , or Calendar. Note: If you choose Calendar, you can easily see your upcoming meetings.
Windows Spotlight updates daily with images from around the globe and it also shows tips and tricks for getting the most out of Windows. Select Slideshow , then select Add a folder , select the folder you want to use, and select Choose this folder. If you see folders listed that you don't want included in the slideshow, select the folder, then select Remove.
